Overview (No Spoilers):
Prior to reading Unravel Me, I revisited my blog post regarding its predecessor, Shatter Me, to confirm that I had been as frustrated as I still felt toward this series. My lingering feeling, along side a long wait list at the library, contributed to me putting off continuing the series despite several reassurances that the series indeed gets better. The series not only gets better, it borderlines on great! Granted, the first half of this book suffers from the same faults as the previous novel, however, due to some much needed character maturation, insufferable characters soon become intriguing and this mutant world becomes even more fascinating! Juliette after some cringe worthy growing pains becomes a strong female character that is only just realizing her potential and courage. This is only one example of the growth experienced by several characters, directly leading to the development of series in general. Overall, Unravel Me is the rare example of the second book in a trilogy being better than the original! By the way, did anyone else miss that this was in fact a trilogy. I finished the third book and immediately attempted to borrow the next book because I knew there were two other books available, Destroy Me and Fracture Me. However, those books are no continuations in the series, just space fillers between time gaps. I’ll talk more about this in the next post for Ignite Me, but alas, I am struggling to resolve my feelings when I thought there was more to a world I was thoroughly enjoying immersing myself in!

Additional Insight (No Spoilers):

  1. Adam was too much! His wild emotions, anger, and making scenes were out of control. I’m so glad Juliette broke up with him, thereby separating herself from an unhealthy relationship. It was only until she started distancing herself from Adam that I started to enjoy this relationship. Personally, I’m rooting for Warner! I felt so conflicted about rooting for the ‘bad guy’ but I feel like there is more to him than we yet know.
  2. Having Adam and Warner being brothers was a bit out of place. Would this controlled Supreme leader really have a second life?
  3. Honestly, I started the third book immediately after reading the second one so I’m having a hard time remembering where one book stopped and second one picked up. As such, I’ll elaborate more in the next post!

  1. I loved your review!! I thought that Unravel Me was a lot better than Shatter Me!! I liked Adam in the first book, but when I read Unravel Me, he was so annoying!! And he just gets worse and worse!! I’m so glad they broke up!! I love Warner too!! I can’t wait to see what you think about Ignite Me!!

  2. Ooh, would you recommend this series above The Winner’s Curse? I’ve had it in the back of my mind ever since I learned that Tahereh Mafi married Ransom Riggs 😀 Such a cute couple! I know that shouldn’t influence my tbr pile, but I can’t help it!

Btw, I take this post to mean you’re back safe from your birthday trip! It looks like you had some awesome hikes with your friend. Thanks for posting all the pics!
