2000 Followers! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I can’t believe how much my blog has grown and I fully give all of you the credit. Your interactions and feedback have kept me going throughout reading lulls and reviewers block. With this exciting milestone coming right as Luke and I are celebrating our second wedding anniversary right around the corner, I’ve decided to share a list of my top twenty favorite literary love quotes. The first eleven were easy to compile due to Luke and I having previously chose our wedding reading to originate from literature in contrast to a more traditional route. As such, this first section contains the quotes that were read during our wedding ceremony, followed by a second section of quotes that despite not making the cut, are near and dear to my heart. Of note, there were a few odd balls that are included, specifically one from Albert Einstein to satisfy my science background. Additionally, I have to point out that the quote from Winnie the Pooh is not actually from Milne, despite this quote showing up everywhere as cited by the aforementioned author. The scientist in me hated having the quote cited incorrectly, but for my wedding reading I thought it would be harmless. Enjoy and please let me know if I missed any of your favorites!
Love is finding that the things you like best about yourself are not in you at all, but in the person who completes you.
Sarah, Orson Scott Card
If you live to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day, so I never have to live without you.
Winnie the Pooh, A.A. Milne
I’ve never had a moment’s doubt. I love you. I believe in you completely. You are my dearest one. My reason for life.
Atonement, Ian McEwan
I fell in love the way you fall asleep: slowly, and then all at once.
The Fault in Our Stars, John Green
Every atom of your flesh is as dear to me as my own: in pain and sickness it would still be dear.
Jane Eyre, Charlotte Brontë
“In vain I have struggled. It will not do. My feelings will not be repressed. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you.”
Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austin
I would rather share one lifetime with you than face all the ages of this world alone.
The Fellowship of the Ring, J.R.R. Tolkien
Gravitation can not be held responsible for people falling in love.”
Albert Einstein
I have for the first time found what I can truly love–I have found you. You are my sympathy — my better self — my good angel — I am bound to you with a strong attachment. I think you good, gifted, lovely: a fervent, a solemn passion is conceived in my heart; it leans to you, draws you to my centre and spring of life, wrap my existence about you — and, kindling in pure, powerful flame, fuses you and me in one.
Jane Eyre, Charlotte Brontë
I will love you forever; whatever happens. Till I die and after I die, and when I find my way out of the land of the dead, I’ll drift about forever, all my atoms, till I find you again… I’ll be looking for you, every moment, every single moment. And when we do find each other again, we’ll cling together so tight that nothing and no one’ll ever tear us apart. Every atom of me and every atom of you… We’ll live in birds and flowers and dragonflies and pine trees and in clouds and in those little specks of light you see floating in sunbeams… And when they use our atoms to make new lives, they won’t just be able to take one, they’ll have to take two, one of you and one of me.
The Amber Spyglass, Philip Pullman
At night, there was the feeling that we had come home, feeling no longer alone, waking in the night to find the other one there, and not gone away; all other things were unreal. We slept when we were tired and if we woke the other one woke too so one was not alone. Often a man wishes to be alone and a woman wishes to be alone too and if they love each other they are jealous of that in each other, but I can truly say we never felt that. We could feel alone when we were together, alone against the others. We were never lonely and never afraid when we were together.
A Farewell to Arms, Ernest Hemingway
The remainder of the quotes didn’t make the cut for our wedding readings but come from authors or literature that is near and dear to my heart. Who doesn’t enjoy a good tug on the heart strings? Which quotes, from either list are your favorite? Or perhaps I completely neglected to include your favorite quotes? Please comment below to let me know! I would love to hear quotes that have impacted you as a reader.
He knew that when he kissed this girl, and forever wed his unutterable visions to her perishable breath, his mind would never romp again like the mind of God. So he waited, listening for a moment longer to the tuning-fork that had been struck upon a star. Then he kissed her. At his lips’ touch she blossomed for him like a flower and the incarnation was complete.
The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgrerald
Perhaps, after all, romance did not come into one’s life with pomp and blare, like a gay knight riding down; perhaps it crept to one’s side like an old friend through quiet ways; perhaps it revealed itself in seeming prose, until some sudden shaft of illumination flung athwart its pages betrayed the rhythm and the music, perhaps… perhaps…love unfolded naturally out of a beautiful friendship, as a golden-hearted rose slipping from its green sheath.
Anne of Avonlea, Lucy Maud Montgomery
When the day shall come that we do part,” he said softly, and turned to look at me, “if my last words are not ‘I love you’-ye’ll ken it was because I didna have time.
Outlander, Diana Gabaldon
We loved with a love that was more than love.”
Annabel Lee, Edgar Allan Poe
I love you. There is no limit to what I can give to you, no time I need. Even when this world is a forgotten whisper of dust between the stars, I will love you.
Empire of Storms, Sarah J. Maas
I thought an hour ago that I loved you more than any woman has ever loved a man, but a half hour after that I knew that what I felt before was nothing compared to what I felt then. But ten minutes after that, I understood that my previous love was a puddle compared to the high seas before a storm.
The Princess Bride, William Goldman
True love, like any other strong and addicting drug, is boring—once the tale of encounter and discovery is told, kisses quickly grow stale and caresses tiresome…except, of course, to those who share the kisses, who give and take the caresses while every sound and color of the world seems to deepen and brighten around them. As with any other strong drug, true first love is really only interesting to those who have become its prisoners. And, as is true of any other strong and addicting drug, true first love is dangerous.
Wizard and Glass, Stephen King
You should be kissed, and often, and by someone who knows how.
Gone With the Wind, Margaret Mitchell
He stepped down, trying not to look long at her, as if she were the sun, yet he saw her, like the sun, even without looking.
Anna Karenina, Leo Tolstoy
“Yer Jalan Atthirari Anni (“Moon of My Life” in Dothraki)”
―Drogo
“Shekh Ma Shieraki Anni (“My Sun and Stars” in Dothraki)”
―Daenerys
Game of Thrones, George R. R. Martin

Well…there is this: “Real isn’t how you are made,’ said the Skin Horse. ‘It’s a thing that happens to you. When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real.’ –the Velveteen Rabbit.
You just can’t have love without being real.

Although it could never be remembered word for word, or used day to day due to its length, it has to be the one from The Amber Spyglass. I loved the book and the sentiment of the quote is beautiful x

Anytime someone mentions love quotes, I think of Shakespeare’s Sonnet 14! I’ll just quote it here ;D
“Not from the stars do I my judgment pluck;
And yet methinks I have astronomy,
But not to tell of good or evil luck,
Of plagues, of dearths, or seasons’ quality;
Nor can I fortune to brief minutes tell,
Pointing to each his thunder, rain and wind,
Or say with princes if it shall go well,
By oft predict that I in heaven find:
But from thine eyes my knowledge I derive,
And, constant stars, in them I read such art
As truth and beauty shall together thrive,
If from thyself to store thou wouldst convert;
Or else of thee this I prognosticate:
Thy end is truth’s and beauty’s doom and date.”

I haven’t read Shakespeare since High School. I think I need to give the old guy another try. 🙂 I love that Sonnet!

Oooh, tough one. I don’t think I have a favourite! Or I will probably think of it a lot later and wish I wrote it here, haha. I do have a favourite quote that Roald Dahl used to go by, however; ‘My candle’s lit at both ends, I won’t last throughout the night, but oh my foes, and ah my friends, it makes a lovely light.’

Great compilation (:. I love the ones by Charlotte Bronte and Edgar Allan Poe. Also, I’m a huge fan of A Song of Ice and Fire / Game of Thrones, and I always thought those two phrases sounded so neat together.
My of favorites is by Emily Bronte (Wuthering Heights): “He’s more myself than I. Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same.”

Ooh hard question, my favourite quote is probably that Pratchett one that goes something like: give a man a fire and he’s warm for a day, set a man on fire and he’s warm for the rest of his life (I’m paraphrasing)

Congrats on your two milestones. A love quote I like:
My bounty is a boundless as the sea,
My love as deep; the more I give to thee,
The more I have, for both are infinite.
