To Read or Not to Read: READ!

Of note: My beautiful baby niece is almost one year old! As a consequence, I’ve been finding myself reading and purchasing baby books for the first time in my adult life. I’ve often pondered writing a science based children or baby book as the available selection is minimal at best. I’m so thankful that my smart little niece loves books as much as she does and I hope she continues to hold them dear as she grows. As such, I thought it might be a fun addition to post my thoughts on the books I’ve bought/read her. I won’t be rating these books as my experience reading books of this genre is very limited but I will comment as to whether I would recommend them.

Overview: A book that combines dragons and tacos, what else needs to be said! I had first heard of Dragons Love Tacos from a coworker that recommended it to me as a gift for my smart little niece due to her two little boys loving this whimsical tale about the dragons’ favorite food item. So after the glowing endorsement and reading the convincing reviews on Amazon, I purchased this guide on how to throw a dragon’s favorite party! Skeptical with regard as to if I would actually enjoy Dragons Love Tacos, I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed this tale, especially when the dragons’ dislike of spicy foods comes into play with most disastrous results. Additionally, the illustrations are highly entertaining and detailed with every page being jam packed with action. The overall effect is an extremely charming and delightful read that my niece absolutely loves!

  1. This book rocks! Author has another out about raccoons and pizza. Equally good. We weren’t fans of the one about squirrels, though.

  2. I love this book. As an adult, I’ve found I actually respect children’s picture books a lot. They often have wonderful artwork, and many of them have wonderful stories. I recommend anything by Steve Jenkins if you want something with a hint of science for young children.

  5. “Dragons” is such a great book!

    Sandra Boynton’s books are favorites in our house right now. Their flow makes them easy to read aloud and to memorize.

    The BabyLit series is also very cute. The books are adaptations of classic novels that focus on counting, colors, sounds, etc. The illustrations are charming.

    One of the best parts of being around children is introducing them to the things that we love.
