Overview (No Spoilers):

Novik has been on my TBR periphery for a past year or so based on fellow blogger and author recommendations. Furthermore, her novels kept showing up every ‘must read’ lists that I happened to be perusing. Finally convinced, I was careful not the spoil any of the backstory or even a brief synopsis of Uprooted prior to adding the title to my library holds list.  That being said, I couldn’t stop listening to this fantastic read, which turned out to be an emotional roller coaster that had me both crying and laughing.  Novik delivers a delightfully unique literary adventure that is gracefully eloquent with a strong, independent female lead that is truly a breath of fresh air.   Upon beginning Uprooted, I was under the impression that this novel would fall under the genre of young adult, however I was pleasantly surprised to find adult themes laden throughout.  Additionally piquing my interest was the deliberate method at which the world building and character depth were developed alongside the story, drawing the reader ever deeper into Agnieszka’s plight. As someone who grew up in a rural community where woods walks were frequent Sunday afternoon activities, I loved the concept of this story, especially as we learn more about the Woods, due to Agnieszka fearlessly adventures further into its depths.  While I want to say more and to rave about how wonderfully refreshing and innovative I found this read to be, I would hate to spoil anything more regarding the premise of Novik’s work of art. That being said, I can appreciate this read is a standalone novel, however I would love to have her revisit this wonderful literary realm sometime in the future.  Overall, Uprooted will be my go to book recommendation for the foreseeable future and will likely find its way into many of my Christmas gifts this year. Sorry to spoil the surprise if you’re reading this friends and family.

Additional Insight (Spoilers Abound):

• As a result of going into this read anticipating a YA novel I was continually shocked at all the death throughout this book. It kept the reader on their toes, not knowing what character would be next to bite the dust.
• Due to Kasia being in the heart tree and changing to part wood, how will her normal aging process be changed?
• Will Agnieszka cope with her parents, family, etc growing old while she stays  young?
• Did the Dragon try teaching the other young girls magic?
• Prince Marek was seriously the worst! I kept worrying the Novik would redeem him. While I’m mentioning characters I despised, I might as well bring up Solya, the Falcon. He was so irresponsible, enabling Marek in his wild ambitions.
• Did the Queen actually run away with her suitor or was she kidnapped?
• What is Jaga’s story? Will Agnieszka  learn to time travel too? I kept wondering if Agnieszka  would turn out to be Jaga.
• Will there be peace for Polngya and Rosya?
• Will Agnieszka finish healing the forest?
• That ending was so beautiful with Agnieszka and the Dragon reuniting!
