Overview (No Spoilers):
I’ve savored reading the Bridgerton series for years, continuing the next installment when I need a happy pick me up. I feel bittersweet that my journey with this wonderful family has come to a close now that Gregory’s story has reached a conclusion.
At this point Quinn’s writing is well familiar and picking up one of her stories is like stepping into Violet’s comfortable drawing room that is filled with love. On the Way to the Wedding follows the same format, though Quinn opens this novel with Gregory in a mad dash to interrupt a wedding. She then puts the breaks on by winding back the clock several weeks in order to build to that frantic opening scene. This ploy instantly adds drama to the slow romantic build that Quinn has in store for the reader.
I enjoyed Gregory. More so than Hyasanth’s love story, this book emphasized how much younger Gregory is than his older brothers, and the gulf seems expansive. One of my favorite things about Gregory is how much he believes in love and is actively waiting to be struck by first love. Such a romantic! I don’t want to spoil who he ends up with but the leading Lady is so much fun to see evolve and grow. She initially is resigned to her prescribed fate, but page by page is having her iron resolve unexpectedly crack.
The supporting cast is fantastic, especially Gregory’s love interests. Both young women are entertaining as their black and white view of the world is challenged for the first time. By allowing some grey in, their life soon becomes flush with color. We are treated to several familiar faces from Gregory’s large family such as Kate and Collin who trigger bursts of nostalgia.
Quinn dreams up an even more impossible situation for Gregory to overcome than any of his siblings in On the Way to the Wedding. I was on the end of my seat, staying up way too late to find out how love would triumph. Overall, this last installment of the Bridgerton series is just as delightful as many of its siblings and might even be one of my favorites as Gregory finds out life is not always as dramatically romantic as he’d dreamed.
