Happy New Year Friends! With 2018 having drawn to an end it is time to look forward to what 2019 has in store for avid book lovers! Similar to the past several years (2017, 2018), I’ve compiled a list of the top books in 2018 that I’m looking forward to being released. Quite a few books on the following list might better be classified as wishful thinking, i.e., Winds of Winter, Doors of Stone, Desert Prince. Ever the optimist, I couldn’t help but group them in with the rest. Here’s to a fantastic reading year for all!
Let me know what you think of the titles on my lineup? Have I missed any key books that are on your list?
The Winter of the Witch by Katherine Arden- January 8, 2019
The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi – January 15, 2019
The Test by Sylvain Neuvel – February 12, 2019
The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon – February 26, 2019
Dying of Whiteness by Jonathan M. Metzl – March 5, 2019
Breach by Eliot Peper – May 14, 2019
Tiamat’s Wrath (The Expanse #8) by James S. A. Corey – March 26, 2019
The Witches are Coming by Lindy West – May 29, 2019
Dark Age (Red Rising Saga #5) by Pierce Brown – July 9, 2019
A Wizard’s Sacrifice (The Woern Saga #2) by A.M. Justice – October 2019
The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern – November 5, 2019
The Splendid and the Vile by Erik Larson – Fall 2019
The Lost Metal (Mistborn, #7) by Brandon Sanderson – Fall 2019
The Secret Commonwealth by Philip Pullman – Fall 2019
Crescent City (Crescent City #1) by Sarah J. Maas – Late 2019
The Olympian Affair (The Cinder Spires #2) by Jim Butcher – Optimistically 2019
Go Tell the Bees that I’m Gone (Outlander #9) by Diana Gabaldon – Optimistically 2019
The Doors of Stone (The Kingkiller Chronicle #3) by Patrick Rothfuss – Optimistically 2019
Winds of Winter (A Song of Ice and Fire #6) by George R. R. Martin – Optimistically 2019
Untitled (An Ember in the Ashes #4) by Sabaa Tahir – Optimistically 2019
The Desert Prince (The Desert Prince #1) – Optimistically 2019
Peace Talks (The Dresden Files #16) by Jim Butcher – Optimistically 2019
If Butcher, Martin, and Rothfuss all manage to drop books this year, I’m going to call that a year-defining miracle. Here’s hoping!

Winds of Winter oh my god! I’ve been expecting news since 2015 if I’m honest.

We can always hope Ruby! I’ll be patient as long as it takes, as long as Winds of Winter is worth the wait!

That’s true! Especially after the final season of the show comes out I’ll be so excited to see how the story continues in the books!

Great list! I am looking forward to the next Expanse novel as well, though not nearly as much as Mistborn 7 or the final Kingkiller novel. Is that for real in 2019!?
Sadly for Mistborn, I saw on Sanderson’s blog it may get pushed back a bit. I hope it’s not the case! – https://brandonsanderson.com/state-of-the-sanderson-2018/
Happy New Year!

I hadn’t seen that news regarding the next Mistborn! Oh well. I can wait a bit longer.
Honestly I couldn’t find any updates regarding the Kingkiller Chronicle. I put the title on this list to be optimistic!
Happy New Year friend!

Erin Morgenstern is bringing out another book? That’s great – I loved The Night Circus.
There’s nothing official yet (just some hints in the second instalment), but I’m hoping that the third part of Stephen Fry’s series on Greek mythology – covering the Trojan War and the Odyssey – comes out in late 2019, based on the first two being published in 2017 and 2018.
Maybe The Thorn of Emberlain by Scott Lynch will be published, but that’s been put back over and over for years now. And people think waiting for George R R Martin to publish The Winds of Winter is frustrating…

I loved the Night Circus too! I’m excited for her next read!
I haven’t read anything by Fry yet. Would you recommend him?
The Lies of Locke Lamora is likely my next book. I’ve heard wonderful things.

Yes, I’d definitely recommend Stephen Fry, whether he’s writing, narrating audiobooks or performing on TV. He’s one of those figures in British culture who can do no wrong, like Sir David Attenborough.
The Lies of Locke Lamora – and the books that come after it – are indeed very good. It’s just a shame we’re less than halfway through the planned seven-book series and having to wait so long for it to continue.

Given the statements Martin has made since the release of Fire & Blood, several the podcaster/YouTube ASOIAF content creators have stated they’re actually beginning to think about how to deal with the release of Winds. I’ve followed these creators for over 5 years and they’ve never made as many mentions about the subject in such a short amount of time that I’m optimistic. But we’ll find out as the year continues.

Also, LOL at the “Optimistically 2019” books XD
