Hello friends! I hope your 2020 has started off with a good book and visiting somewhere warmer than Michigan. It’s been quite a while since I’ve given an update on our honeybees. We ended the 2019 with four healthy hives that were healthy going into the winter and are still healthy as far as we know. Based on a reoccurring request, Luke and I have opened an Etsy shop for our extra raw honey.
You can follow the following links to visit the shop and maybe order some if you’re in the market for some Michigan wildflower raw honey or creamed honey.

Thanks Jonny! Don’t be scared of honey bees, unless of course you’re allergic! 🙂 It’s a pretty fun hobby.

I’ve actually just seen a bunch of people stung through my life and it always terrified me.

Wonderful photographs. I enjoyed looking at your bees, they are quite different to our Welsh Black bees, and look quite colourful. Good luck with the venture

Thank you! Welsh black bees are indeed different than the Italians we have. 🙂 How many hives do you have?

We only have two hives, enough for ourselves and friends. Thankfully both healthy.

That looks incredible. How much honey is produced via the four active hives you have? It’s a thing I’ve always wondered.
I’ve become a firm believer in the value of local honey for people who suffer from seasonal allergies, but since I don’t live in Michigan … 😉
And what the heck is creamed honey?

Each of our hives made 100 lbs of honey this year! We’ve had four hives for the past couple of years and our total honey has ranged from 60-150 lbs. So having 400 lbs this year we really don’t know what to do with all of it!
Creamed honey is raw honey that has been mixed in a blender several different times over a couple of weeks to give it the smooth, spreadable texture of icing. It’s actually our top seller right now.
I agree! Honey is super helpful for the seasonal allergies! 🙂

What a beautiful photo summary. Bees are one of God’s amazing creations! We learned quite a lot about them when we tried beekeeping 2 seasons (and failed spectacularly!) Enjoy the fruit of your labors and a successful Etsy shop — from a fellow Etsy-er 🙂
