Overview (No Spoilers):
The Last Tribe is a young adult/middle grade novel that is essentially a dystopian love letter to the United States. Set approximately 200 years after the collapse of the government, young Jack Madison is given a mission to reassemble the Constitution in the form a scavenger hunt that spans familiar locations from our nation’s founding. This region has fallen into chaos and is rife with slavers, not to mention, large swaths of the land are contaminated with nuclear fallout, further poisoning the area. Jack, along with his brother Toby navigate these dangers, with many unexpected obstacles hindering their path. As descendent of James Madison, the brothers conveniently stumble across other notable links as their quest progresses. Despite the Constitution being lost for centuries, the brothers very quickly begin assembling the lost pieces, while accumulating new allies with every stop. Overall, in typical YA fashion the solutions are often obvious and the battle outcomes preordained, however The Last Tribe was a entertaining treasure hunt filled with nostalgia for America and its founding.
